Malaria is a disease that is typically transmitted through the bite of an infected female Anopheles Mosquito. It is a life-threatening disease that is caused by mosquito carrying the plasmodium parasite which when it bites you releases the parasite into your blood stream.

Simply, Malaria is caused by the bite of female Anopheles Mosquito.

Malaria is simply the name of the disease caused by mosquitoes, however Malaria is a disease that affects the health of people.

It lies right inside the body via the Malaria Parasite called Plasmodium. Today many people are very sick due to the bite of this mosquito and in some cases may lead to death of some people.

How Do Malaria Forms

Once the parasites are inside your body, they travel to the liver where they mature.After several days the mature parasites enters the bloodstream and begin to infect red blood cells.

So within 48-72 hours the parasite inside the red blood cells multiply, causing the infected cells to burst open.

However the parasites continues to infects red blood cells, resulting in symptoms that occur in cycles that lasts for two to three days.

Types of Malaria

Here we will talk about types of Malaria parasites that caused disease to human.

  1. Plasmodium Vivax
  2. P. Ovale
  3. P. Malariae
  4. P. Faciparum

However P. Faciparum causes more severe form of disease which in a certain condition can lead to death of any one being infected.

Therefore Malaria is transmitted by blood and also can be transmitted by others ways such as

  • Organ transplant
  • A Transfusion
  • Use of shared syringed and needles.

Symptoms of Malaria

As we all know the symptoms of Malaria take gradual process which typically develops within 10 days to 4 weeks following the infection.

However the common symptoms of malaria we have are:

  • High Fever
  • Profuse Sweating
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • diarrhea
  • Anemia
  • Muscle pain
  • Convulsions
  • coma
  • Bloody stools

Treatment of Malaria

If you have Malaria as a disease then you have to visit the hospital. The doctor will prescribe medication based on the type of parasite that you have.

We already know that Malaria can be a life-threatening  condition, especially if you’re infected with Parasite P. Falciparum.

However the drugs will help to fight the disease it has caused on you which can take few days before you get better.

If your Immune System is good, then you will recover before the period of time, however your immune system is already fighting the disease.

According to the WHO, there are approximately 228 million cases of malaria worldwide. However the African region were mostly affected with over 93% cases and almost 94% deaths across the globe.

In 1960, the the discovery of a potent antimalarial treatment was Youyou tu of China. However he was able to discover a new Malaria fighting drug as the disease became resistance to the then commonly used medications.

Artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs)

Chloroquine phosphate

  2. We have Combination of atovaquone and proguanil (Malarone)
  3. Also there are Quinine sulfate (Qualaquin) with doxycycline (Vibramycin, Monodox, others)
  4. Mefloquine

Yes Malaria can easily be prevented: thus we are going to mention preventive mechanism you can use to protect yourself from any disease.

  • You have to Take the right type of anti-malarial medicines for the country you are travelling to
  • Make sure you Protect yourself from mosquito bites by sleeping under an insecticide-treated mosquito net.​​
  • Ensure that you Wear socks, long pants, long-sleeve shirts and blouses.
  • Very important: Spray DEET mosquito repellent onto your clothes and the exposed parts of your skin.

Is Malaria Important in Our Environment

I can’t say that Malaria is important since it can cause death when in severe cases. So Malaria is never the answer to live a health life and most importantly, Malaria should be completely eradicated from our homes..
