The word Schengen might sound strange to some people, not everyone Is familiar with the word. That brings us to the big question of what is a Schengen visa?.

A Schengen visa, can be defined as a short stay visa that allows a person to travel to any part of Schengen areas, with a validity of 90days, with for business or tourism reasons.

With the visa, one can be assured on no restriction, as the person would be given access to enter Schengen areas which happens to be European countries. One who has the motive of staying or working in Schengen areas cannot apply for Schengen visa, rather the person would apply for national visa.

Things One Need to Know Before Applying

Below are some quick and reliable facts which people must know before applying for a Schengen visa, they are:
1. All countries in the third-world, that have yet not reached a visa-liberalization agreement with the Schengen member states, need to get a visa before their arrival in Schengen areas(European countries).
2. At the Schengen port of entry, some documents are required to be presented before permission to enter can be granted, they are:
• Valid passport: must be issued in the last 10years, and must be valid for at least 3months before the day you wish to travel.
• Schengen visa: very important to get, especially does from the third world countries.
3. 26 countries have signed the Schengen Agreement and only this 26countries can grant free passage and entry access for those with Schengen visa, the visa can also be gotten from each of the Schengen zone.
4. Schengen border officials, are likely to ask for some other documents apart from the two listed above, documents like sufficient funds, proof of accommodation, how long you intend to stay, round-trip airline ticket, purpose of your entry, travel insurance, invitation letter, etc. It is advisable to have all this documents present.
5. When entry the Schengen areas, it is very important that the border officials gives a stamp on your passport, one can be fined or detained without the stamp.
