Blow to Trump’s Immigration Crackdown as US Federal Judge Blocks New Bid Against Birthright Citizenship

In a high-stakes judicial intervention, a United States federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from enforcing its latest controversial executive order aimed at dismantling birthright citizenship. This decisive ruling thwarts President Donald Trump's renewed campaign to restrict the long-standing constitutional right, marking a major defeat for his administration’s aggressive immigration and border control strategies.

US District Judge Deborah Boardman of Maryland issued a preliminary injunction following a robust legal challenge spearheaded by international immigrant rights coalitions. The advocacy groups argued that the August 6 executive order—which specifically targeted what the administration terms “birth tourism”—directly undermined the clear text of the US Constitution.

In her scathing 35-page ruling, Judge Boardman made reference to established judicial precedents to justify the injunction. “The Supreme Court has spoken: Children in the certified class are ‘citizens at birth’,” Boardman wrote, asserting that the president's recent directive is almost certainly unconstitutional under current legal frameworks.

Human rights and immigrant advocacy groups have widely celebrated the court's intervention.
