FG Inaugurates High-Powered Committee, Sets 90-Day Deadline for National Security Strategy

In a decisive effort to bolster Nigeria's defense architecture and mitigate evolving security challenges, the Federal Government has inaugurated a high-level committee mandated to draft a revised National Security Strategy (NSS) alongside a Five-Year Strategic Defence Framework.

The panel has been given a strict 90-day timeline to produce a cohesive, actionable document capable of guiding defense policy and operational deployment. According to official reports, the newly formed body comprises senior representatives from the armed forces, intelligence services, paramilitary agencies, and relevant public sector stakeholders.

Speaking at the inauguration, government officials emphasized that the review is vital for adapting to non-conventional security threats, including violent extremism, armed banditry, crude oil theft, and cyber vulnerabilities. The strategic framework is expected to align defense spending with modern tactical requirements.
