Five Nabbed as Police Intercept Truckload of Stolen Telecom Mast Iron Rods in Lagos
In a decisive blow to syndicates targeting critical national infrastructure, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspects allegedly specializing in the theft and vandalism of telecommunications equipment. The suspects were intercepted in the high-brow, rapidly developing Ibeju-Lekki corridor of Lagos State, while conveying a massive consignment of stolen iron poles meant for the construction of telecommunication masts.
According to an official statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspects have been identified as Mohammed Shaibu, 26; Musa Zakari, 29; Abdullahi Bala, 22; Salisu Musa, 18; and Yahuza Bala, 20. The suspects were caught red-handed loading the heavy-duty iron rods into a standby truck, destined for an undisclosed destination where such items are routinely melted down or resold on the black market.
The state command confirmed that the breakthrough was made possible through a highly coordinated joint operation with the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army. This inter-agency synergy proved pivotal in cordoning off the escape routes of the suspects, leading to their prompt arrest. The case has now been officially transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, where a specialized team of investigators has been tasked with unravelling the full scale of the syndicate’s network.
"The Lagos State Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, has arrested five suspects and recovered a truckload of stolen iron rods meant for telecommunication masts in Ibeju-Lekki.
