Kaduna Approves N300m Academic Allowance, Inaugurates Committee to Stem Impending KASU Strike

In a decisive move aimed at stemming industrial unrest and restoring stability to state-owned tertiary institutions, the Kaduna State Government has approved the immediate release of N300 million for the payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) to the staff of Kaduna State University (KASU).

According to official statements released by state officials, the disbursement is part of a broader intervention strategy designed to satisfy outstanding financial obligations owed to academic personnel. The decision comes after prolonged negotiations between the university management, organized labor leadership, and key government representatives regarding accumulated allowances and operational funding deficits.

Beyond the financial intervention, the state executive leadership has inaugurated a specialized committee tasked with holistically reviewing all grievances presented by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) KASU branch, as well as non-academic staff unions. The panel is expected to examine salary structures, infrastructural deficits, and operational bottlenecks that have historically triggered disruption in academic calendars.

State government sources indicate that the committee will engage directly with union leaders to chart a sustainable roadmap for institution funding, ensuring that future financial commitments are built into the state's medium-term expenditure frameworks rather than resolved through ad-hoc interventions.
