NDLEA Foils N6.2bn Drug Cartel Syndicate at Lagos Airport, Seizes 'Jihadi' Pills Hidden in Ghana Soap

In what has been described as a major victory against organized crime, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a multi-billion Naira shipment of illicit narcotics at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. The seizure, valued at a staggering N6.2 billion, uncovered millions of high-potency opioid pills and a significant cache of Captagon—a highly addictive synthetic amphetamine widely known as the 'Jihadi drug' for its notorious role in fueling combatants in Middle Eastern conflicts.

According to an official statement released on Sunday by the NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the cartel utilized highly sophisticated concealment techniques to bypass state-of-the-art airport security. The lethal consignments were allegedly embedded deep within packages of traditional Ghanaian herbal soap, a strategy designed to mask the chemical signature of the synthetic drugs during transit. However, diligent profiling and actionable intelligence led anti-narcotics agents to isolate the suspicious cargo during a routine clearing operation.

The NDLEA disclosed that the operation resulted in the arrest of several suspects linked to the syndicate, who are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation to map out the wider distribution network. "This operation showcases our uncompromising commitment to dismantling the financial backbones of drug barons," Babafemi stated, emphasizing that the agency remains resolute in its mission to sanitize Nigeria's ports of entry from illicit substances.
