Niger Police Arrest 29 Suspects Over Assassination of Village Head, Violent Crimes

In a decisive sweep aimed at reclaiming public spaces from criminal elements, the Niger State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 29 suspects allegedly linked to murder, armed robbery, and other violent crimes. This security operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the command to stem the tide of insecurity that has threatened to destabilize the socio-economic life of communities across the North-Central state, which has long grappled with asymmetrical security challenges.

Chief among the arrests is the apprehension of four suspects allegedly involved in the brutal killing of Bawa Barde, the 53-year-old village head of a community in the state. According to reports from the command, the suspects allegedly attacked and killed the traditional leader under controversial circumstances, triggering widespread fear and outrage among the local populace.
