Police Nab Two Suspected 'One-Chance' Robbers in Ogun After Intelligence-Led Crackdown

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended two individuals allegedly specializing in the notorious 'one-chance' taxi robbery scheme within the metropolitan areas of Abeokuta. The suspects, whose identities are currently being shielded to protect ongoing investigations, were reportedly cornered during a strategic sting operation executed by tactical forces. For several weeks, commuter complaints had surged regarding commercial vehicles operating as deceptive traps designed to strip unsuspecting passengers of their hard-earned valuables.

According to initial security briefs, the breakthrough occurred when the command's intelligence unit acted on actionable data gathered from previous victims. The suspects allegedly operated along major transit corridors in the state capital, posing as legitimate commercial transport operators to lure commuters into their vehicles. Once the victim was isolated in transit, other syndicate members disguised as passengers would brandish weapons, forcing the victim to surrender cash, mobile devices, and bank cards.

A senior police source, speaking on the condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to brief the press, revealed that a team of undercover operatives trailed the suspects' operational vehicle. Upon gathering sufficient evidence, the team intercepted the saloon car, leading to the immediate arrest of the two principal suspects while others allegedly fled into nearby thickets. Items recovered from the vehicle reportedly included several mobile phones, wraps of suspected illicit substances, and dummy weapons used to terrorize victims.
