Rather than indulging in populist campaign pledges that risk structural fiscal collapse, Sheikh Maraya urged presidential contenders to tell Nigerians the unvarnished truth regarding state finances. He warned against the recurring cycle of political deceit where candidates make sweeping campaign commitments, only to offer perfunctory apologies after assuming office on the grounds of unexpected economic complexities.

While acknowledging the severe pressure the policy shift has placed on the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians and the foreign exchange value of the Naira, the scholar appealed for sustained public patience. He maintained that redirected subsidy revenues must be strictly deployed toward visible capital development projects and critical social infrastructure to cushion the shock on vulnerable households.

To achieve a sustainable economic transition, Maraya urged the Federal Government to accelerate the comprehensive rehabilitation of the nation’s four state-owned refineries alongside supporting new domestic refining facilities. He stressed that until domestic production successfully reduces import dependence and alleviates foreign exchange strain on the Naira, hasty policy reversals could force commercial activities and government operations to a complete standstill.
