2027 Polls: Defence Minister Matawalle Urges Eid-el-Maulud Peace Prayers Amid Security Concerns

As the global Muslim community celebrates the 1448AH/2026 Eid-el-Maulud, Nigeria's Minister of State for Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, has made a passionate appeal for peace, security, and spiritual intervention ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections. In a statement released in Gusau on Tuesday by the Publicity Secretary of the Matawalle Political Movement, Malam Yusuf Idris, the minister urged the Muslim Ummah to utilize this sacred period to pray fervently for the complete restoration of peace across all geopolitical zones of the federation.

Highlighting the timeless significance of the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) birth, Matawalle emphasized that the virtues of love, tolerance, compassion, and unity should guide the actions of every citizen. He noted that the Prophet’s teachings encompass every facet of human life and remain highly worthy of emulation, especially at a time when the nation is navigating complex socio-economic and security challenges. According to the minister, spiritual alignment is a vital pillar in fostering civic responsibility and communal harmony.

Significantly, the minister drew a direct connection between the religious milestone and the impending political transition.

"This year’s Maulud is coming at a very critical time for our dear country, Nigeria, as we are preparing for another election cycle,"
