2027 Realignment Begins as Over 2,000 APC, ADC Members Defect to PDP in Yobe State
As the political atmosphere in Nigeria gradually gathers momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State has secured a significant tactical victory. In a major political realignment, the party officially received at least 2,025 defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nangere Local Government Area.
The defectors were formally received into the fold of the PDP by Chief Halilu Mazagane, a prominent member of the party's Board of Trustees (BoT) and former senatorial candidate for Yobe South. The event, which drew massive crowds of local supporters, is being viewed by political analysts as an early indicator of shifting loyalties in a state traditionally dominated by the ruling progressives.
According to official party statements during the declaration, the breakdown of the defectors includes 500 former members of the ruling APC, 1,300 from the ADC, and 225 from the NDC. "We are here to create awareness among our members as well as receive those who have seen the light and decided to join the PDP," Mazagane announced, urging the newcomers to remain resilient in the face of local political pressures.
"In a major political shakeup ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State has received over 2,000 defectors from the ruling APC and other opposition parties. Led by BoT member Halilu Mazagane, this massive shift in Nangere Local Government Area signals an early battle for the soul of the Northeast state."
