Anambra Polls: NDC Disowns 10 Candidates on INEC List, Demands Immediate Rectification

In a development highlighting the persistent friction between political party administrative machinery and electoral management bodies, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vigorously disowned ten candidates credited to its platform on the latest list published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the upcoming Anambra State legislative and constituency elections.

Addressing party stakeholders and reporters, national executives of the party emphasized that it remains the exclusive statutory prerogative of the political party to conduct transparent primaries and submit verified nominees to the electoral umpire. According to the party leadership, the ten individuals currently appearing on INEC’s official register were neither validated through constitutional party congresses nor endorsed as standard-bearers.

The dispute revolves around alleged irregularities in the transmission and processing of candidate substitution documents prior to the statutory deadline. NDC officials maintain that duly executed substitution notices, supported by relevant affidavits and statutory withdrawal letters, were formally conveyed to the electoral commission within the stipulated legal framework, making the published list an administrative anomaly.
