In a critical move to avert potential aviation safety hazards, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has officially flagged an uncompleted building obstructing the line of sight from the air traffic control tower at Benin Airport in Edo State. The structural obstruction, situated dangerously close to the airfield's operational perimeter, reportedly impairs controllers' direct visual contact with parts of the runway and taxiway.

The systemic risk came to the fore during preliminary safety assessments following an operational incident involving an Enugu Air flight that suffered a runway overrun at the facility. According to safety investigators, unhindered visual monitoring from the control tower remains a fundamental requirement for air traffic controllers managing ground operations, landings, and emergency responses.
