Bauchi Senator Buba Denies Sponsoring Banditry, Blames Political Foes Over Fabricated Videos

Senator Shehu Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has mounted a fierce defense against allegations linking him to notorious bandit kingpins in northern Nigeria, describing the narratives as completely fabricated and politically motivated. The lawmaker, who is currently the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate for Bauchi State, has categorically dismissed claims circulating online that high-profile bandit leaders had visited his private residence or that he sponsored some of them on the holy pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj).

In a strongly-worded statement issued in Abuja, Buba revealed that he has been the target of coordinated propaganda, doctored multimedia content, and manipulated videos since late 2024. In response to what he termed a calculated attempt at character assassination, the senator has launched a dual-front legal offensive spanning jurisdictions in Nigeria and Niamey, the capital of Niger Republic.

Specifically, Buba disclosed that he has submitted a formal criminal complaint to the Public Prosecutor at the Tribunal of First Instance in Niamey through his legal representatives in Niger Republic. The legal action seeks the prosecution of one Hassan Saleh Hussein for alleged defamation, cyberbullying, and insult transmitted through electronic communication channels. According to the lawmaker, these claims must be subjected to rigorous evidentiary standards before being treated as fact by the public.
