In an authoritative clarification addressing circulating online speculations, Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Chairman of the UN Committee on Budget and Administration, Ambassador Ibrahim, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his immediate family cannot be detained or subjected to legal harassment during their official presence in the United States for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The envoy emphasized that high-level state representatives operating within the auspices of the United Nations headquarters district are insulated by comprehensive provisions under the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, alongside the UN Headquarters Agreement signed with the United States government. According to official diplomatic briefings, these international statutes guarantee absolute immunity from personal arrest or detention for sovereign leaders.

Ambassador Ibrahim pointed out that the Nigerian Mission in New York had not received any judicial notice, formal summons, or official communication from U.S. law enforcement agencies regarding any members of the presidential delegation, describing rumors of impending legal actions as entirely baseless and fundamentally detached from established international law.
