How 45-Year-Old Suspect Allegedly Bludgeoned Kebbi Okada Rider, Left Him for Dead in Bush

In a chilling reminder of the persistent security vulnerabilities facing informal transport operators in Nigeria's northwest, the Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended 45-year-old Bello Abubakar, an indigene of Ganwo Village in Yauri Local Government Area. The suspect is currently being detained in connection with an audacious and brutal case of attempted culpable homicide and armed robbery. According to official police accounts, the suspect allegedly targeted an unsuspecting 22-year-old commercial motorcyclist, localizing a broader pattern of highway banditry and opportunistic crime that has plagued the region's rural bypasses.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bashir Usman, disclosed in a comprehensive statement made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi that the incident unfolded on the afternoon of August 23, 2026. The victim, identified as Bello Umar of Wasagu Village in Danko/Wasagu LGA, had reportedly accepted what seemed to be a routine commercial charter from Koko Town. Unbeknownst to the young rider, his passenger had allegedly mapped out a violent ambush, leveraging the isolation of the rural transit corridor to execute a pre-meditated robbery.

The journey took a horrific turn when they reached the desolate Tungar Dariya Bush, situated near Makera Village in Shanga Local Government Area. Investigators revealed that the suspect allegedly drew a hoe, violently striking the victim on the head. Believing he had successfully killed the young man, the assailant reportedly dragged the unconscious body into the thickets, covering it with dry leaves to delay discovery, before fleeing with the stolen motorcycle to Yauri Town. The victim was later discovered by passing commuters and rushed to the Koko General Hospital, where emergency medical intervention saved his life.
