The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has alerted the public to a fraudulent website currently circulating across social media platforms, which falsely claims to facilitate online Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) for upcoming electoral cycles. Officials confirmed that the domain is an unauthorized clone engineered by cybercriminals to deceive unsuspecting citizens.

According to statements released by the commission's chief publicity officers, the fraudulent portal lures users with misleading promises of rapid voter card processing and non-existent government monetary grants. Unsuspecting visitors are requested to submit critical personal details, including full names, National Identification Numbers (NIN), phone numbers, and residential addresses.

INEC reiterated that it has not opened any new portal for voter registration, emphasizing that any legitimate public engagement regarding the CVR exercise will be formally announced through its official, verified digital channels and national media outlets.

"The public is strongly advised to discountenance the fake link. INEC does not demand financial compensation or private security credentials to register voters," the commission stated.

Preliminary technical assessments suggest that the fraudulent domain utilizes domain spoofing techniques to mimic official government portals, posing significant cybersecurity threats to users who interact with the page or share the link across messaging networks like WhatsApp and Telegram.
