JAMB, INEC Partner as Commission Moves to Deploy Biometric Tech for UTME Malpractice Fight

Responding to the request, the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, commended JAMB for its pivotal role in shaping the academic and professional destiny of Nigerian youths. Highlighting the critical nature of the board’s mandate, the Chairman affirmed that government institutions must constantly seek innovative ways to share resources and maximize taxpayers' investments. He noted that the Commission’s technological prowess had been thoroughly validated in recent sub-national polls, including the Ekiti, Osun, and Anambra gubernatorial elections.

To transition this proposal into immediate action, Prof. Amupitan directed the Commission’s Director of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Dr. Lawrence Bayode, to conduct an immediate proof-of-concept assessment. This evaluation will determine the technical viability, availability, and configuration of the biometric hardware to ensure seamless integration into JAMB’s existing examination infrastructure without compromising data security or operational schedules.

The strategic implications of this partnership extend far beyond mere equipment sharing. By repurposing state-owned technological assets, both agencies are demonstrating a rare model of fiscal prudence and collaborative governance.
