Addressing a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, Lawal explained that the formidable structure inherited from his late father—a bedrock of Kwara politics—is now fully integrated into the APC. The move is designed to fortify the ruling party’s base and streamline governance under Governor AbdulRazaq, whom he described as the undisputed leader of the party in the state. According to reports, this defection effectively weakens the opposition's foothold in Kwara, shifting the balance of power decisively back to the ruling progressive fold.

Lawal did not mince words as he criticized former party members, including Senator Salihu Mustapha and others who have allegedly distanced themselves or defected due to personal ambitions.
