LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Doctors Threaten Action Over Severe Understaffing and Unpaid Arrears

Resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have raised a distress alarm over deteriorating working conditions, severe understaffing, and protracted welfare issues. Operating under the aegis of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), the medical practitioners declared that they have been pushed to the wall, forcing them to take a definitive stand to protect both their mental health and the lives of their patients.

According to reports from the association's leadership, the tertiary health institution is currently grappling with an acute shortage of manpower across critical departments. The persistent delay in implementing the consequential adjustments of the national minimum wage, alongside unpaid salary arrears, has further dampened the morale of the remaining medical personnel, who now work under highly exhausting schedules.

The leadership of the ARD lamented that despite multiple representations, meetings, and ultimatums presented to the hospital management and the Oyo State Government, no concrete resolution has been reached. "We are overworked, underpaid, and systematically ignored," a senior resident doctor, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told reporters. The association warns that if these foundational issues are not addressed immediately, a total breakdown of clinical services at the teaching hospital remains highly imminent.
