Ogun State Unleashes Clampdown on Illegal Motorcycle Unions Over Unauthorized Revenue Tolls

The Ogun State Government has initiated a decisive regulatory clampdown on unregistered and outlawed motorcycle transport associations operating across the state's three senatorial districts. In a directive issued through the Ministry of Transportation, the state administration warned unauthorized breakaway factions and independent groups to immediately halt their operations, particularly the illegal collection of levies from commercial motorcyclists (popularly known as Okada riders).

According to official state channels, the government has explicitly recognized only three legitimate transport unions authorized to coordinate commercial motorcycle activities and collect state-approved ticketing revenues. These designated unions are the Riders and Owners Motorcycle Association (ROMO), the Association of Mobile Road Transport Organisers of Nigeria (AMORAN), and the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners, Riders, and Repairs Association of Nigeria (ACCOMAN). Any other group operating outside this tripartite framework is now deemed illegal and subject to immediate prosecution.

Security agencies have reportedly been placed on high alert to enforce this directive, amid concerns that the proliferation of parallel transport unions has historically fueled localized cult clashes, violent turf wars, and systemic extortion. State authorities have emphasized that the activities of these unapproved groups pose a direct threat to the ongoing efforts to digitize transport union operations and harmonize revenue collection mechanisms across Ogun State.
