Oyo APC in Turmoil as Reps Aspirants Revolt Against Alleged 'Unity List' Ahead of 2027
The fragile peace within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suffered a severe blow following an open revolt by a coalition of House of Representatives aspirants against a controversial ‘unity list’ reportedly designed for the 2027 general elections.
The aggrieved aspirants, drawn from various federal constituencies across the state, converged in Ibadan to voice their vehement opposition to what they described as a calculated attempt by select party chieftains to foist pre-determined candidates on the party under the pretext of consensus building. They maintained that the purported list represents a direct assault on the fundamental tenets of internal democracy.
In an extensive joint resolution issued following their consultative dialogue, the coalition condemned the clandestine formulation of legislative rosters without broad-based stakeholder consultations. The aspirants insisted that grassroots faithful who have invested resources and loyalty into sustaining the party's structure in opposition must not be disenfranchised by high-handed administrative fiat.
"We reject in its entirety any purported unity list compiled without transparent, inclusive, and verifiable stakeholder engagement," the coalition declared, calling on the National Working Committee (NWC) to step in and forestall an impending crisis capable of triggering widespread disaffection and anti-party activity.
"A coalition of All Progressives Congress House of Representatives aspirants in Oyo State has vehemently rejected a contentious ‘unity list’ drafted ahead of the 2027 general elections. The aggrieved politicians are demanding an immediate overhaul of the candidate selection framework, warning that backroom impositions could derail the party's bid to reclaim the state."
