SEC Approves Dangote Refinery’s Historic ₦2.15 Trillion IPO in Landmark Capital Market Milestone
Located in the bustling economic free zone of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex is not merely a corporate entity; it is an industrial superpower spanning approximately 2,635 hectares. At the core of its investment thesis is a world-class integrated refining facility boasting a current installed capacity of 700,000 barrels per day. This makes it the largest single-train refinery on the planet, operating alongside an ultra-modern 900,000 tonnes per annum polypropylene plant and supported by an independent, dedicated 435-megawatt power plant designed to guarantee uninterrupted operations.
The strategic layout of the refinery is engineered to completely satisfy Nigeria’s domestic demand for refined petroleum products while generating immense export volumes for the continental and global markets. In a bid to cement its dominance, plans are already underway for an expansion phase aimed at boosting refining capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day. Such an expansion would firmly position the Lagos-based megastructure as the absolute largest refinery complex of any configuration globally, shifting the gravity of global fuel supply chains toward West Africa.
Beneath the physical assets lies a sophisticated logistics framework designed to optimize freight and shipping efficiency. The facility incorporates the world’s largest single order of five Single Point Moorings (SPMs) and utilizes advanced processing technologies that comply with rigorous international standards, including the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), European emission standards, and the World Bank’s environmental guidelines. Coupled with a massive storage network comprising 177 tanks with a total capacity of 4.742 billion liters, the refinery represents a highly de-risked, self-sufficient infrastructure play for ESG-conscious global funds.
