In what appears to be a worrying escalation of political hostility in Rivers State, suspected political thugs have allegedly invaded and vandalised the secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Emohua Local Government Area. The targeted assault, which reportedly occurred on Wednesday night, has thrown the local community into a state of anxiety as residents woke up to the sight of destroyed campaign properties.

According to local reports, the armed hoodlums descended on the party’s secretariat located in Emohua Town, the administrative headquarters of the local government area. The attackers systematically targeted and destroyed expensive publicity materials, including giant billboards, high-definition campaign banners, and other promotional items mounted on and around the party building.

The NDC House of Representatives candidate for Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, Hon. Fugbara Ohaka, confirmed the ugly development on Thursday. Condemning the act in the strongest possible terms, Ohaka described the destruction as a desperate attempt to intimidate his supporters and stifle democratic competition in the constituency. He urged party faithful to remain calm and resist any temptation to launch retaliatory attacks.
