Insecurity Clampdown: Federal Government Destroys 1,419 Illicit Weapons, Recovers 5,449 Firearms to Safeguard National Economy

Beyond the physical collection and destruction of weapons, the federal government is shifting its focus toward dismantling the complex international supply chains feeding these criminal networks. According to official reports, eleven suspects are currently in custody in connection with the illegal importation of 844 assorted automatic firearms and 112,500 rounds of live ammunition. The deadly cargo was meticulously concealed in a container intercepted at the Onne Port in Rivers State before being handed over to the NCCSALW for forensic profiling and destruction.

The crackdown has also targeted domestic manufacturing hubs that local cartels rely on. Security operatives successfully disrupted a sophisticated illegal arms manufacturing syndicate operating in Minna, Niger State. The suspects involved are currently facing prosecution, signaling a zero-tolerance policy toward local blacksmiths and rogue engineers converting industrial metals into lethal firearms. This twin-track approach of policing both the maritime borders and domestic backwoods is designed to strangle the illegal arms trade at its roots.

Simultaneously, the federal government has moved to sanitize the internal security space by warning the public against fraudulent self-styled security organizations. The NCCSALW clarified that the official National Forest Guards initiative, coordinated by the Office of the National Security Advisor, must not be confused with the illegal 'Nigeria Forest Security Service.' The self-proclaimed leader of the illegal group, Joshua Osatimehin, and several key associates have been arrested, while a court order has mandated the immediate sealing of their offices nationwide.
