Ogun 2027: Monarch Demands Rigorous Background Checks on Abiodun’s Potential Successors

Beyond his broad warnings on the 2027 general elections, Oba Akinyemi waded into the lingering internal friction within the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He specifically highlighted the unresolved controversy surrounding the party's primary election involving Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and Hon. Abayomi Hunye, calling on the party's hierarchy to step in and restore transparency.

Expressing concern over the continuous political agitations and counter-claims on social media, the monarch questioned the integrity of the primary results. He pointedly raised concerns over the official declaration that Hunye allegedly recorded zero votes during the exercise—a scenario the traditional ruler described as mathematically and logically implausible.

The Eselu argued that even under the most unfavorable political conditions, an active aspirant participating in a democratic exercise would, at the very least, secure their own vote. The omission of this singular vote, he argued, hints at underlying systemic flaws that must be clarified by party administrators to prevent future occurrences from undermining public confidence in the electoral system.

"If Abayomi Hunye participated in the primaries, it is impossible for him to have scored zero votes because he would have at least voted for himself. So, who stole his vote? Even if the majority voted for Yayi, Hunye would not have cast his own vote for Yayi. Where did that single vote go?"

Warning against the dangers of unresolved grievances, the monarch advised political actors to desist from overheating the polity online and instead resolve their internal issues through mature mediation.
