The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) understands the complex arithmetic of opposition coalitions better than any other political bloc in Nigeria's democratic history. Between 2013 and 2015, the strategic merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and a vital faction of the All Nigerians Peoples Party successfully upended the then-dominant Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
